I learned about Pericoronitis firsthand over the last 10 days or so by acquiring the condition and dealing with the consequences of it. My lesson began with occasional soreness and from there became a throbbing pain in my jaw and lymph nodes. I tried to ward it off with ibuprofen; initially I was successful but after several days this strategy failed. I found myself in the dentist's chair yesterday getting x-rayed and was informed I was afflicted with Pericoronitis. This condition which is caused when a partially erupted tooth gets food trapped around it, breeding anaeorbic bacteria and causing pain and suffering.
Fortunately, I was given a prescription for penicillin and vocodin, and it's been smooth sailing since then. The sleepless nights of headaches and throbbing pain are a distant, two-day-old memory. I'm getting my wisdom teeth extracted on Monday.
